Just a warning for sewers everywhere... I used to be one that swore by a Point Turner and Seam Creaser, as it really was my best friend. However I've had unfortunate luck this weekend while finishing my projects as the Point Turner has poked through the fabric a time or two- eek! I'm not sure if there is anything more disappointing than coming to an end of a project and then making an oopsy. So, if you are (or were) and avid user of a Point Turner, like myself, please know your strength and learn form my mistakes! :)
On a happier note, I've been working on a new line of Zippered Pouches for my Etsy shop! To date I've made a happy flower and a darling tree, and I have so many more ideas in store for future pouches! The pouches measure 5" x 7" and are made out of canvas, which stands up to almost anything! The edges of the sweet designs will fray overtime which only adds extra character to the pouch! :)

It's no secret to my family and friends that I'm not a fan of laundry! Luckily, I have a large enough wardrobe that warrants not doing laundry weekly (or perhaps I should word it that I'm a pro at making what I have last as long as needed)- whew! ;) With that being said, I spent the better half of today tackling my laundry pile which resulted in five loads of my laundry and one load of house laundry (sheets, towels, etc.). In an attempt to free up precious weekend time, I want to share an article with all, one that my momma kindly sent to me last week.
Side note- I'm a fan of the Real Simple magazine, as it always has such great recipes and useful tips for things/tasks around the house. If you're not a subscriber to the magazine, don't fret as you can still access some great information from their website!Okay, back to the daunting task of laundry! There are a couple great tips from the article that I think I might try to implement, as creating a weekly laundry schedule will save me from spending ALL day on Sundays doing laundry, thus freeing up more family and sewing time- yeah! I also love the suggestion to hang most of one's clothes, rather than folding- I wish...I would need a couple closets if I attempted that! ;) I actually do have a quick and funny (slightly embarrassing) story regarding laundry. I spent a year during college living in Florence, Italy, where I had to hang my laundry, as dryers are not the norm. I was renting an apartment on the third floor, and the clothes line was over the first floor tenant's courtyard. One day I was busy hanging up my undergarments to dry when the unthinkable happened...I lost grip on one (undergarment) and watched it plummet to the floor of the courtyard. I was so embarrassed!!! Later that week I got home from school to find my undergarment hanging on the banister of the first floor- again I was so horrified! Looking back it's all quite funny- thankfully! (I'm not quite sure why I shared that story with the world...it just kind of came out.) :)Okay, enough funny stories for one night! Do you do your laundry all in one day, or spread it throughout the week?
I think it's safe to say that I'm in NEED of one of these, rather than it just being a want! "The Gypsy Gripper has a comfortable grip handle, and two large round suction cups with handy lock & release levers. Just press the suction cups to any plastic ruler with a smooth solid surface, and then flip the levers to lock The Gypsy Gripper in place. Now you can move the ruler quickly, and easily hold it on the exact position with gentle downward pressure. Your ruler hand will be up and away from the fabric, and out of harm's way if you slip with the cutter. When you need to switch to another ruler, just flip the locking levers to release The Gypsy Gripper."By chance do any of you use The Gypsy Gripper? Last year I treated myself to a well deserved (and needed!) Rowenta iron, and have been in heaven every since!
Up until a couple weeks ago I thought I was a good and caring iron owner, until I took a closer look at the soleplate- icky! With JoAnn's 50% off coupon (good until Saturday), my loving mom picked up the Rowenta Soleplate Cleaning Kit.
I'm happy to report that I just finished cleaning the soleplate, and my oh my...it works! I definitely had to put a little muscle into the cleaning, however it was all worth it (even my slightly charred thumb- stupid mistake) as I'm ecstatic with the result.Note- I tried to take before and after pictures for all, but the lighting just wasn't cooperating...perhaps next time! :)
Calling all experienced sewers, I'm in need of your help and wisdom! I have an itch to build up my fabric stash with an assortment of great fabric (which stems from finding the perfect apron fabric in my stash as well as the need and desire to organize my crafting and sewing items into one central location). I foresee a shopping trip to M&L Fabrics in the very near future! :)In your experience, how much fabric do you buy when building your stash, 1/2 yard, 1 yard, 2 yards, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help!
When I first started to get into sewing (this past January!) I went to my Grandma B. with frustrations regarding my sewing machine, as the presser foot wouldn't make it over thick seams. A couple days later I received a Jean-a-ma-jig in the mail, with a sweet note of encouragement from my Grandma B. 
I'm writing this post to share with all the novice sewers (like myself) or even the more advanced that the Jean-a-ma-jig does wonders, as it raises your presser foot enabling ease over thick/bulky seams! I'll be the first to admit that I've used it on ALL of my projects this year (quilts, aprons, fabric basket, craft swap project, etc.).
If you have any tips to share, I'm all ears! :o)
