Little Bitty Aprons!

Some of the best ideas for my shop come from my customers, and for that I am SO thankful! After seeing a photo of the aprons I made for my Momma and I for the Craft Show, my sister's co-worker placed a custom order for two children aprons! What makes the story even better, is that the aprons are going to two sweet little girls that are getting play kitchens for Christmas!


Not having made a child's apron before, I headed to Kohl's with my measuring tape in hand, to take some much needed measurements! The aprons turned out great and measure a perfect size 4t!

Child's Apron- Complete!

With Mr. D out of town I was able to spend all Saturday sewing, and completed a child's apron for a Christmas present (I mentioned it here some time ago)! With the two pairs of pajama pants and the apron complete, all I have left to complete is the family's handmade present and then the package will be off to Georgia (I'm thinking this will be a 'Christmas in November' package).

I love how the apron turned out, although it almost ended up in the trash a couple of times as I had a very difficult time achieving a nice subtle curve where the top of the apron transitions to under the arm. Thankfully I didn't take any drastic measures as I think the apron will be a hit come Christmas morning!

10/28/09 UPDATE: P.S.- I may have been the only one bugged by the floppiness of the top of the apron (look at the photo above- do you see how the top of the apron hangs off of the straps?). No worries- I sewed a little extra 'support' where the top of the apron meets the straps now everything lays nice and pretty! :)

Hippest Chef in Town!

Remember the story about going to the quilt shop with my Grandma B. to pick out fabric for my apron? Below is the outcome of the aforementioned shopping trip and lots of hard work on my Grandma B.'s part. I must say, it's a beauty (not to mention that I'm one lucky girl!). :)

Finito!

I'm thrilled to report that the aprons I'm taking with us on vacation are finished!



...and I actually remembered to add the 'P.S. I Love You' tags- a perfect handmade detail! :o)

Upon my return from vacation, I have one more apron to finish up and I also have a little baby boy quilt to start (more puppies!). In the mean time I'm looking for a new project that peaks my interest (reusable grocery bags, pillows, etc.). I think it's about time to add a new label to the blog! Have a great week!

Saturday Night- Sewing Fever

As mentioned, I have three more aprons in the works (and then I'm onto a new project!). The first two consist of a chicken/rooster print is for Mr. D's step-mom, and a puppy print (which makes me smile every time I take a glance) for Mr. D's older sister. I'm in a time crunch to finish them this week, as we leave on vacation Saturday morning.

Skirt= chicken/rooster print;
Waistband + Ruffle= brown accent;
Pocket + Straps= yellow accent.

Skirt= puppy dog print;
Waistband + Ruffle= brown polkadots;
Pocket + Straps= blue accent.

However, thanks to my Saturday night of crafting with my dear craft buddy Kiara, I'm definitely on track to finish! I'll try my best to post photos of the completed project prior to our departure.

I also have a cute floral apron that I'm working to complete. I must admit that at the craft store the fabric was a bit out of my comfort zone, although it has greatly grown on me. I'll have to keep you in suspense regarding the floral skirt until next time...just a secret ploy to ensure my readers return! ;o)

Aprons 101

I quickly made the transition from quilting to apron making, as I had birthdays fast approaching. The first apron took some time, as I've learned that I'm quite a procrastinator when I'm faced with a new challenge (i.e. rick rack!). With the scraps leftover from the apron, I was able to practice my quilting techniques via the impromptu hot pads.

My first half apron (I feel like a proud mom!); the skirt, pocket, and straps are from JoAnn Fabrics' Heidi Grace collection (which I love, as I used the same for Miss Phoebe's quilt).


The second apron was made especially for a coworker's birthday. All of the fabrics below are also from the Heidi Grace collection.



I've purchased fabric for three additional aprons (of which I'll post photos of in the near future). All three aprons have a life of their own, however I know they will be PERFECT for their respective recipients!
