I believe the day we were at RB headquarters, was the day that So Sophie made its debut, therefore Jana and I were gifted some So Sophie. I had honestly been waiting for the perfect quilt, to use my So Sophie, and in my eyes a quilt for Kia's sweet Grandma fit the bill.</span><br />
<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UU8bNy2zuFs/UvrPIZO9qsI/AAAAAAAADD4/5xRfh9gFfio/s1600/IMG_3364.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UU8bNy2zuFs/UvrPIZO9qsI/AAAAAAAADD4/5xRfh9gFfio/s1600/IMG_3364.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Just like the Parson Gray World Tour quilt for Kia's Dad, time was extremely tight, so I opted to make a quick fat quarter friendly quilt (<a href="http://www.threadedpear.com/store/products/details/?product=402">Fantastic-O Fat Quarter Quilt</a>,
by my friend Gina Halladay). The front is pieced using 12 fat quarters, and quilted with big bubbly flowers, in a rose colored thread.</span><br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KPuwFG7hCjo/UvrPT7rf-9I/AAAAAAAADEA/ptZMs6XqE1Q/s1600/IMG_3367.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KPuwFG7hCjo/UvrPT7rf-9I/AAAAAAAADEA/ptZMs6XqE1Q/s1600/IMG_3367.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The back is simple, as I used the small yellow flower print, and used the linear polka dot print for the binding. Kia's Grandma was over the moon when she opened the quilt, which is reason enough for why I create and sew for others. :) </span><br />

I'll have to do a couple of blog posts to recap everything I made, but here is a quick breakdown:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">2 Lap Quilts</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">5 Pillowcases</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">22 Quilted Holiday Pillows</span> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">(with zippers!)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T08ExHM_D2Q/UvrRKkSf6vI/AAAAAAAADEY/coQzTieNti4/s1600/IMG_3306.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T08ExHM_D2Q/UvrRKkSf6vI/AAAAAAAADEY/coQzTieNti4/s1600/IMG_3306.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The first lap quilt I made was for Kia's Dad. I had planned on making him a quilt for his birthday, as he mentioned that he was interested in a quilt of his own, but during a weak moment, I convinced myself that I could whip one up for him in time for Christmas.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q93vVN0HH74/UvrPXA3tXsI/AAAAAAAADEI/8BRmBqjYxrs/s1600/IMG_3369.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q93vVN0HH74/UvrPXA3tXsI/AAAAAAAADEI/8BRmBqjYxrs/s1600/IMG_3369.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Time was tight, so I opted to make a quick fat quarter friendly quilt (<a href="http://www.threadedpear.com/store/products/details/?product=402">Fantastic-O Fat Quarter Quilt</a>, by my friend Gina Halladay). It's really become my go to quick quilt in a day pattern. The fabric is World Tour by Parson Gray, which I love as it is very manly, and even has a Persian touch to it.</span> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQxhK9C7WAo/UvrPgK5MKRI/AAAAAAAADEM/n31dAF4oPDM/s1600/IMG_3371.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQxhK9C7WAo/UvrPgK5MKRI/AAAAAAAADEM/n31dAF4oPDM/s1600/IMG_3371.jpg" height="474" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Needless to say, Kia's dad was stoked when he opened up his quilt, which brought a huge smile to my face. I love to sew for others, as the recipient's joy always warms my heart!</span><br />

I really wanted to be in attendance at the wedding, but unfortunately I wasn't able to be there to celebrate their big day. I had grand plans of making a quilt for Alia and Ryan for their wedding, I fervently pieced the quilt top, had it quilted, and then it as time for the binding, which is when I was quickly reminded HOW MUCH I hated hand stitching binding (I know its a horrible excuse, but its the only excuse I have). </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I hate to admit, but the quilt sat quilted, but not binded, in my sewing studio for +/- 14 months after the wedding. Thankfully I found the time and motivation to hand stitch the binding before Christmas.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fxgslO_aXlI/UvrLFbG_6iI/AAAAAAAADDo/djiqJgVWpvM/s1600/IMG_3302.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fxgslO_aXlI/UvrLFbG_6iI/AAAAAAAADDo/djiqJgVWpvM/s1600/IMG_3302.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The quilt front is pieced using Jeni Baker's <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2010/09/plus-quilt-tutorial.html">Modern Plus Quilt Tutorial</a>. Fabrics are from the Bold and Beautiful collection by Michelle D'Amore for Bernatex.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f0ZB_XIL7Ls/UvrLA_A8gBI/AAAAAAAADDg/PZ_jbL76idM/s1600/IMG_3300.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f0ZB_XIL7Ls/UvrLA_A8gBI/AAAAAAAADDg/PZ_jbL76idM/s1600/IMG_3300.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I added leftover strips from the quilt front to the back, which makes the back pop in my opinion. This beauty of a quilt made its way up to Portland, and is being enjoyed by Alia and Ryan! :)</span><br />

I have been sewing like a MAD woman, and wanted to share the finished goods with you! A little over a month a go I went fabric shopping with my boyfriend (no worries, we left still a couple!). :) The mission at hand was to pick "manly" fabrics for new custom pillows for his couches. I found Betz White's Stitch Organic print and used that as the base for all of the pillows. We methodically selected a handful of fabrics that coordinated with the Stitch Organic print and were soon enough on our merry way! I made a total of five pillows, with only two using the same pattern. All pillows are 18" square, and I machine quilted each pillow on my BabyLock.</span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UdMepjL2_Pk/Ui5QmhsR-dI/AAAAAAAADA4/lJQ6XZlbkbM/s1600/IMG_3276.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UdMepjL2_Pk/Ui5QmhsR-dI/AAAAAAAADA4/lJQ6XZlbkbM/s640/IMG_3276.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I made another Tallahassee paper pieced pillow, just like I did for the <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2013/06/pillow-talk-swap-10.html">Pillow Talk Swap</a>! This time I used the same fabric for the background and flower middles, and really like how it turned out!</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IkGGhwnATFo/Ui5Qldudv_I/AAAAAAAADAo/i9zRAzecuck/s1600/IMG_3280.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="540" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IkGGhwnATFo/Ui5Qldudv_I/AAAAAAAADAo/i9zRAzecuck/s640/IMG_3280.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I used the Stitch Organic print for the backing of each pillow, and hid the zipper with a coordinating print.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YuJi7AXTS3U/Ui5QphmVNNI/AAAAAAAADBA/ahZHxE_uvyY/s1600/IMG_3283.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YuJi7AXTS3U/Ui5QphmVNNI/AAAAAAAADBA/ahZHxE_uvyY/s640/IMG_3283.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For this pillow, I modified the Coming Home quilt pattern in <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/simplify-quilts-for-the-modern-home">Camille Roskelley's Simplify book</a>, to make an 18" square pillow.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It's no secret to my family and friends that I have fallen in LOVE with triangle pillows. I made two this go around, and really thought about keeping one for myself (shhh...don't tell my boyfriend!). :)</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sDPHUWifUd0/Ui5Qlcnh16I/AAAAAAAADAs/gkZEcnn4CaQ/s1600/IMG_3272.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sDPHUWifUd0/Ui5Qlcnh16I/AAAAAAAADAs/gkZEcnn4CaQ/s640/IMG_3272.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-krDyeO3wqss/Ui5QfhcFvYI/AAAAAAAADAY/zGdu_k2Bi64/s1600/IMG_3266.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="500" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-krDyeO3wqss/Ui5QfhcFvYI/AAAAAAAADAY/zGdu_k2Bi64/s640/IMG_3266.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oHMaKsldtuI/Ui5QbUHq5WI/AAAAAAAADAA/fN2FNoMr6UI/s1600/IMG_3256.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oHMaKsldtuI/Ui5QbUHq5WI/AAAAAAAADAA/fN2FNoMr6UI/s640/IMG_3256.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This is the second triangle pillow. They both coordinate, yet they're so different.</span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0qjEKykj0DE/Ui5QbCa2DbI/AAAAAAAAC_8/3gfpKoeTdZ8/s1600/IMG_3260.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0qjEKykj0DE/Ui5QbCa2DbI/AAAAAAAAC_8/3gfpKoeTdZ8/s640/IMG_3260.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CHr71XtQMrI/Ui5QWf7it8I/AAAAAAAAC_s/LeYUY8s3BsM/s1600/IMG_3250.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CHr71XtQMrI/Ui5QWf7it8I/AAAAAAAAC_s/LeYUY8s3BsM/s640/IMG_3250.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Last but not least, I modified the A Bunch of Crosses pillow pattern from the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pillow-Pop-Quick-Sew-Projects-Brighten/dp/1607054787">Pillow Pop book</a>, to fit an 18" pillow form. You might remember that I made him a <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2013/01/simply-color-plus-quilt.html">Simply Color Cross Quilt</a> for Christmas last year; I love that this pillow echoes the same pattern.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">All of the pillows lined up, and ready for their debut on his couch!</span></div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I had some leftover fabric and a little time (more fabric than time), and opted to make a quick fat quarter friendly quilt (<a href="http://www.threadedpear.com/store/products/details/?product=402">Fantastic-O Fat Quarter Quilt</a>, by my friend Gina Halladay).</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I also added a little hand embroidery (I couldn't pass up the opportunity!).</span></div>

I whipped this colorful pillow up in a day's time for a friend's birthday. I used the gray flower print as my base fabric and pulled colorful coordinating scraps.</span><br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7KXNjG5IJaI/Ui5bAt2930I/AAAAAAAADCU/xYEzJ_BsuC4/s1600/IMG_3220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7KXNjG5IJaI/Ui5bAt2930I/AAAAAAAADCU/xYEzJ_BsuC4/s640/IMG_3220.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The triangles are 4" equilateral triangles; each pillow requires a total of 50 triangles (10/row and 5 rows/pillow). Each pillow is roughly 18" square. </span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I did some simple straight line quilting on the pillow, using the triangles as my guide.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I used the Gray Flower print for the backing of the pillow, and hid the zipper with a coordinating print.</span></div>

I'm picking up my Bestie quilt from my quilter's house tonight after work (eeks- I'm SO excited!!!). So, in anticipation of seeing the finished quilt, I thought I should share blocks #6 - #9 with you! :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fx_HnkIFYdo/UfvwFGGEGjI/AAAAAAAAC9c/2iBjvc7w4go/s1600/Swoon_Block+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fx_HnkIFYdo/UfvwFGGEGjI/AAAAAAAAC9c/2iBjvc7w4go/s640/Swoon_Block+6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> It's my personal opinion, that you can never go wrong with the pink and gray color combo! (Have I ever mentioned that gray is my new favorite color!?!)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZq7Tm7nr1w/UfwB09onNDI/AAAAAAAAC98/-TLmsbksMSw/s1600/Swoon_Block+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="636" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZq7Tm7nr1w/UfwB09onNDI/AAAAAAAAC98/-TLmsbksMSw/s640/Swoon_Block+7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">At first glance I thought that this color combo was a bit bold, but thankfully it fit in nicely with the other eight blocks. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oX9fQGB1fI4/Ufvw1Eu600I/AAAAAAAAC9s/uHR3Ykl4_18/s1600/Swoon_Block+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oX9fQGB1fI4/Ufvw1Eu600I/AAAAAAAAC9s/uHR3Ykl4_18/s640/Swoon_Block+8.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm a bit obsessed with polka dots, any kind, size, and/or color!!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jepxgKykLpo/UdogkP_20MI/AAAAAAAAC9I/uTZ8KXts6XI/s1600/Swoon_Block+9.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r_ajRPRzcGY/UfvwLu0lxDI/AAAAAAAAC9k/FbKRvRzrRb8/s1600/Swoon_Block+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r_ajRPRzcGY/UfvwLu0lxDI/AAAAAAAAC9k/FbKRvRzrRb8/s640/Swoon_Block+9.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I think this block is one of my favorites! I love the gray and green color combo, and I especially love the green eyelet print!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Speaking of Besties and quilting, I get to spend this coming Friday afternoon with <a href="http://crossstitchdramaqueen.blogspot.com/">Jana</a>- woo hoo!</span> <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm not exactly sure what we'll be doing, but I'm sure it will involve eating, laughing, fabric buying, and maybe (just maybe) a little bit of dancing! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I really had a wonderful time participating in this swap. Just like the Pretty Little Pouch Swap #7, the swap was kicked off with each participant posting an inspiration mosaic, so that their secret partner can pull colors and ideas for their own creation. This was my mosaic...bright geometric patterns (stars, triangles, chevrons, pluses).</span><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I can't show you my partner's mosaic, however this is what I created for her! I used the <a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TallahasseeBlock.html">Quilter's Cache template</a> to create a 9 block paper pieced Tallahassee pillow! This is the first time I ever paper pieced, and although there was a bit of a learning curve, I am SO glad I challenged myself, as I love how the pillow turned out.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CwNhugHxPGw/UaOZrVsdIZI/AAAAAAAAC3k/kMN9BPQo_V0/s1600/IMG_3200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CwNhugHxPGw/UaOZrVsdIZI/AAAAAAAAC3k/kMN9BPQo_V0/s640/IMG_3200.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I used a happy mixture of Rilley Blake fabrics (Sugar and Spice, Delighted, and Apple of My Eye), as well as some Simply Style, and Architextures for the background. Here is a close up of the quilting. I opted to only quilt the squares of the background and flower centers, that way I wouldn't take away from the colorful flower petals.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wjVJ6JsIYIE/UaOZsGCCfMI/AAAAAAAAC34/h3Wk1v9K7j8/s1600/IMG_3208.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wjVJ6JsIYIE/UaOZsGCCfMI/AAAAAAAAC34/h3Wk1v9K7j8/s640/IMG_3208.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The back is just as happy as the front! I used a blue and gray chevron stripe print from Paula Prass, and opted for the polka dots from the center flower to hide the zipper. The pillow is binded with the Gray Eyelets from Flea Market Fancy. I had a really hard time letting this pillow go, but hope that it will bring my partner joy!</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This is the sweet zippered pouch and goodies I received from my partner in the <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2013/05/pretty-little-pouch-swap-7.html">Pretty Little Pouch Swap #7</a>! :)</span></div>

Scraps work best for this quilt, however if you want to use fresh fabric, I've included yardage requirements in the Materials list. Let's get started...</span><br />

1. <span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">From the Madhuri Main Orange, cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 2 3/4" high x 1 3/4" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(2) 1 3/4" high x 5 1/2" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(2) 1 3/4" high x 4" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(1) 3" square</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> From the Madhuri Diamond Blue, cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 2 3/4" high x 1 3/4" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(2) 1 3/4" high x 5 1/2" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(2) 1 3/4" high x 4" wide</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(1) 3" square</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> From the Madhuri Stripe Blue, cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 2 3/4" square</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 1 1/8" high x 2 3/4" wide</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> From the Madhuri Elephant Orange, fussy cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(1) 2 3/4" square</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> From the Solid White, cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 2 3/4" squares</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(8) 1 1/8" high x 2 3/4" wide</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> From the Solid Hot Pink, cut the following:</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(2) 3" square</span></li>
<li><span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(4) 4" high x 1 3/4" wide</span></li>

</ul>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">2. We'll start off with sewing the Churn Dash block together. Take the 3" squares (Main Orange; Diamond Blue; Solid Hot Pink), with right sides together, draw a diagonal line from one end to the other and sew 1/4" on both side of the line. Cut across the line and press. You've just created four Half Square Triangles (HST).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">3. With right sides together, sew one of the 1 1/8" high x 2 3/4" wide Madhuri Stripe Blue to the 1 3/4" high x 2 3/4" wide Solid Hot Pink. Press seam, and repeat for a total of four.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">4. Sew two of the pieces you made in Step #3 to each side of the fussy cut Madhuri Elephant Orange. Press seams and set aside.</span><br />

A couple weeks before Quilt Market, sweet Amanda of <a href="http://thequiltedfish.typepad.com/the-quilted-fish/">The Quilted Fish</a> sent the Creative Team some of her new Madhuri fabric to play with. We all made "Modern Mini Quilts", which were hung in Amanda's booth at Quilt Market.</span><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This is the front of my Madhuri Mini. I love the fussy cut elephant and the traditional Churn Dash block.</span></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I pieced the back and quilted (for the the very first time!!!) this Mini with straight line stitches. I love the simplity of the quliting, however am still bummed that the pink eleephant seam is wonky - you live and learn!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">If you like the looks of this Mini, make sure you come back on 5/29/13, as I will be posting a tutorial, so that you can make your own.</span></div>

It felt so good to have the opportunity to sew all weekend with no interruptions. I'm not a doctor, but I honestly believe that sewing is good for the soul! :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Have you heard of <a href="http://www.canoeridgecreations.com/">Canoe Ridge Creations'</a> 6 month <a href="http://www.canoeridgecreations.com/2013/02/announcing-fresh-mini-quilt-club.html">Fresh Mini Quilt Club</a>? I signed up a couple of weeks ago and am SO glad that I did. At the begin of the New Year I challenged myself to choose more difficult quilt projects (aka the Swoon that I'm working on for the <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/search/label/Bestie%20QAL">Bestie QAL</a>) and to get out of my quilting comfort zone (aka start making mini quilts that I can practice my free motion quilting skills on). </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Although I haven't yet found the courage to practice my free motion quilting skills, I did finish two mini quilt tops this weekend, which means I'm well on my way. The first quilt top is for me, and will soon brighten up my sewing studio.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DXcnkdfbZZc/UU-FoT42_OI/AAAAAAAAC0g/2F_bJzUdcJE/s1600/Mini+Quilt_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DXcnkdfbZZc/UU-FoT42_OI/AAAAAAAAC0g/2F_bJzUdcJE/s640/Mini+Quilt_1.jpg" width="629" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The second mini quilt top is for my Momma. I think she might hang it in her office at work! :)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-98TwZBcI5hw/UU-Fo0pO_aI/AAAAAAAAC0o/0_8wA_iuFYs/s1600/Mini+Quilt_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-98TwZBcI5hw/UU-Fo0pO_aI/AAAAAAAAC0o/0_8wA_iuFYs/s640/Mini+Quilt_2.jpg" width="619" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Both mini quilts are made from a very old Riley Blake fabric line (Andrea Victoria), which I love. It made its debut when I first started quilting, and unfortunately none of my local quilt shops carried the fabric (and I wasn't a savvy Etsy shopper back then). A year or so my quilting friend was getting cleaning out her stash and offered me pieces of what you see above. I've held onto Andrea Victoria for quite sometime, as I new the perfect project would come along!</span>Candice @ Made With Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09181802766141608557noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3677762797139668614.post-3597925430302251862013-03-13T12:12:00.002-07:002013-05-28T11:04:43.166-07:004x5 Modern Quilt Bee - Spring!<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Do you spend much time on Flickr? <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Blocks #4 and #5 of my <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2013/01/bestie-quilt-along-details.html">Bestie quilt</a> are complete, which means I only have four more to go- whew!!!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2SdiG_9QsLg/UfwEihGsiZI/AAAAAAAAC-U/_L_Ku9PFGUg/s1600/Block_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2SdiG_9QsLg/UfwEihGsiZI/AAAAAAAAC-U/_L_Ku9PFGUg/s640/Block_4.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I love the green/blue combo! From my personal experience, if you're making a Swoon quilt of your own, I find that sewing the blocks in pairs is most efficient (rather than sewing one block at a time).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhAVWzijXIM/UfwERYQEQ3I/AAAAAAAAC-M/6kpj94-ah6w/s1600/Block_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhAVWzijXIM/UfwERYQEQ3I/AAAAAAAAC-M/6kpj94-ah6w/s640/Block_5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Truth be told, this block is a bit dark for my liking. It may be a challenge to place the block within the quilt, but then again, I'm always up for a good challenge!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'll be back soon with Blocks #6 and #7! :)</span></div>

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">This past weekend proved to be a Swoon weekend, as I was able to finish 2 blocks (only 6 more to go!). I love these blocks, especially with the fussy cut bouquet smack dab in the middle. <span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="color: black;">Seriously</span></span>, could they get any more beautiful? :)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r_bZls821jw/UfwFfmzW2zI/AAAAAAAAC-k/RhdSwYJE4oc/s1600/Block+2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r_bZls821jw/UfwFfmzW2zI/AAAAAAAAC-k/RhdSwYJE4oc/s640/Block+2-1.jpg" width="634" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="color: black;">Block #3 just may be my favorite to date. It might have
something to do with the fact that I'm using the bouquet in turquoise print for
the quilt backing, and the gray eyelet print for the binding.<o:p></o:p></span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="color: black;">I've been thinking a lot about Swoon possibilities, everything from holiday
to everyday. Right now I have my eye on the <a href="http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/shop/category/riley-blake-designs/available-now/sweetcakes-cottons-2/">Sweetcakes Hearts print</a> (2nd row
from the top) paired with pink/white/red solids. I think it would make a
marvelous Valentine's Swoon quilt. Now I just have to find the fabric and the
time!</span></span></div>

I love Dr. Seuss, and the fact that I read his books as a child and now my friend's kids are enjoying them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">My sweet friend Kiara's son turned one, and had a Dr. Seuss themed birthday party to celebrate! Once I spotted the sweet Robert Kaufman Dr. Seuss fabrics on Etsy, I knew that a Dr. Seuss Birthday Quilt was in order for the big party! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I used Patchwork Plaza's <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/106296722/pdf-quilt-pattern-one-block-two-block?">One Block Two Block Red Block Blue Block</a> quilt pattern. Kiara and I took laid out the fabric, and then I whipped up the quilt in a day or so. There are hardly any matching seams, thus the quick sewing!</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">My friend Joyce did the long arm quilting for me. I love the circles and the choice of yellow thread. </span></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The
quilt is backed with all of Dr. Seuss' book titles, and bound in a red

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">If you haven't joined the Bestie QAL, don't fret as there is still time! We chose to use Flea Market Fancy and the Swoon quilt pattern, but there are no rules for this QAL so feel free to start something off of your to-do list! As always, if you need a Bestie I will volunteer (feel free to ask <a href="http://crossstitchdramaqueen.blogspot.com/">Jana</a> and <a href="http://jabotquilt.blogspot.com/">Jackie</a> about my Bestie skills, as they are quite top notch!). :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We've also set up an official <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/bestieqal/">Flickr Group</a> for the Bestie QAL, so feel free to join and browse (one of my favorite past times!).</span>Candice @ Made With Lovehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09181802766141608557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3677762797139668614.post-53204566998633609562013-01-07T04:00:00.000-08:002014-02-11T17:11:01.305-08:00Simply Color Plus Quilt<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Its so hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone! This beauty of a quilt was a Christmas gift for a very special guy. I've always found it hard to select fabrics for a manly quilt, let alone a Christmas present for someone special...like a boyfriend!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I went to a local quilt shop one day at lunch, looking for the perfect "manly fabric" (although I was skeptical that such even existed), when I stumbled upon a selection of <a href="http://www.unitednotions.com/fcc_simply_color.pdf">Simply Color</a> by V and Co. (only green, blue, and gray - paired with Moda Bella Solids). I went home and thought about what I had seen at the quilt store, and while rummaging through my stash I found an unopened fat quarter bundle of Simply Color, that I had picked up at Sample Spree in Kansas City, MO (Spring 2012). With that, the "manly quilt" was born.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nySx1jMSLco/UOo66iqMsiI/AAAAAAAACrM/9FbwnSBRchI/s1600/IMG_3119.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nySx1jMSLco/UOo66iqMsiI/AAAAAAAACrM/9FbwnSBRchI/s640/IMG_3119.jpg" width="640" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I used In Color Order's <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2010/09/plus-quilt-tutorial.html">Plus Quilt Tutorial</a> for the pattern, and most definitely recommend it. I'll be the first to admit that cutting 320 4.5" square is not something to write home about, but the end result most definitely is (wouldn't you agree?)!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I started this quilt well after Thanksgiving, with the goal of having it completed for Christmas (which I accomplished- thank.you.very.much!). The cutting took time, sewing the quilt together was quick. My sweet friend Joyce did the long arm quilting for me, and I took the time to hand stitch the binding (which I finished Christmas Eve morning).</span>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Besties are great, aren't they!?! Way back when, I had a brilliant idea of having identical Bestie quilts, you know so that you can snuggle "with your Bestie" wherever you are! </span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Cue the music for the introduction of the Bestie Quilt Along (QAL for short!).</span><br />
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnOCRNpu4Mg/UOPHA7cj3sI/AAAAAAAACqw/RLYyNUhWO24/s1600/Bestie+Button.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnOCRNpu4Mg/UOPHA7cj3sI/AAAAAAAACqw/RLYyNUhWO24/s320/Bestie+Button.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I, along with my quilting Besties <a href="http://crossstitchdramaqueen.blogspot.com/">Jana</a> and <a href="http://jabotquilt.blogspot.com/">Jackie</a> are hosting a Bestie Quilt Along- are you interested!?! The details are quite simple. Select fabric and a quilt pattern with your Bestie, and make identical quilts! For this QAL, Jana, Jackie, and I will be using <a href="http://dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=79">Flea Market Fancy</a> by Denyse Schmidt, and the <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/swoon-pattern-142-pdf-pattern">Swoon Quilt Pattern</a> by Camille Roskelley. The best part, is that there isn't a rigid QAL schedule that you need to keep up with, just sew at your pace and know that others are rooting for you to finish. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Feel free to use the fabric and pattern that we're using, or come up with your own combination- the choice is totally up to you! Need some help? What about <a href="http://www.unitednotions.com/fcc_simply_color.pdf">Simply Color</a> by V and Co. paired with In Color Order's <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2010/09/plus-quilt-tutorial.html">Plus Quilt</a>? Or <a href="http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/shop/category/riley-blake-designs/just-arrived/flutter/flutter-cottons/">Flutter</a> by The Quilted Fish paired with <a href="http://www.threadedpear.com/store/products/details/?product=508">Oh, Kaye</a> (or <a href="http://www.threadedpear.com/store/products/details/?product=402">Fantastic-O Fat Fun</a>) by Threaded Pear Studio? Or <a href="http://www.dsquilts.com/fabric_and_patterns.asp?PageID=255">Chicopee</a> by Denyse Schmidt paired with Stitched in Color's <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/01/scrap-attack-triangles-quilt-tutorial.html">Scrap Attack Triangle Quilt</a>? </span><br />

Remember the <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2012/03/lesson-learned-becoming-longarm-quilter.html">long arm quilting drama</a> that this quilt put me through?</span> <span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Long story short, the backing was not taut on the long arm machine, thus folded over onto itself creating unsightly blemishes- fail! I could either live with it (although my perfectionist self would never allow that) or unpick two rows of perfectly quilted circles. With the help of my mom, I chose the latter. It took about two weeks or so until the quilt was completely unpicked (not bad, right!). :)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The quilt was made using the <a href="http://www.country-schoolhouse.com/twister_tool.htm">Twister tool by CS Designs</a>. The fabric consists of a <a href="http://www.unitednotions.com/fcc_reunion.pdf">Reunion</a> layer cake, by Sweetwater, and some yardage (refer to the free quilt pattern that comes with the Twister tool for details).</span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MkYejdsN3CI/UD2PxyinqAI/AAAAAAAACnk/gMyZDkHCRZk/s1600/IMG_2777.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MkYejdsN3CI/UD2PxyinqAI/AAAAAAAACnk/gMyZDkHCRZk/s640/IMG_2777.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here is the finished quilt, in all its glory (its had a rough life- see above!). I opted to wash the quilt after I completed the binding, and all of the holes from the unpicking disappeared- magic!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ysv8vYLh8zg/UD2P7KDpNxI/AAAAAAAACns/o_Bkn_RoJmo/s1600/IMG_2778.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="504" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ysv8vYLh8zg/UD2P7KDpNxI/AAAAAAAACns/o_Bkn_RoJmo/s640/IMG_2778.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here's the back- bunting and chevron stripes, what more could a girl ask for? :)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8QiMjzgP09o/UD2P8EcmFMI/AAAAAAAACn0/1dvLnHrcT-4/s1600/303485_10150687012957649_118765792_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8QiMjzgP09o/UD2P8EcmFMI/AAAAAAAACn0/1dvLnHrcT-4/s640/303485_10150687012957649_118765792_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here
is a close up of the circles that were quilted by me on a long
arm. Between you and me, the circle pattern is my go to pattern, as I know it will never disappoint!</span></div>
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</span></div>
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: black; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="color: black;">If you're interested in making a quilt with the <a href="http://www.country-schoolhouse.com/twister_tool.htm">Twister tool</a>, I have a couple of pointers/progress photos for you. </span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KEo2M2NhEWU/UD2YC1U6nBI/AAAAAAAACoQ/k8LEySfetDg/s1600/IMG_2277+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="582" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KEo2M2NhEWU/UD2YC1U6nBI/AAAAAAAACoQ/k8LEySfetDg/s640/IMG_2277+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The first step is to sew the 10" squares (layer cake) together, along with the border. Its amazing to watch the transformation from boring squares to pinwheels. Its like presto change-o!</span></div>
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7xLSTSNzUDQ/UD2YSeMYLbI/AAAAAAAACog/Xlsmjl3l1Yo/s1600/IMG_2282.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7xLSTSNzUDQ/UD2YSeMYLbI/AAAAAAAACog/Xlsmjl3l1Yo/s640/IMG_2282.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For all of the perfectionists out there- here is my #1 tip. When adding the borders to the 10" block quilt top (see first photo in 'tips' section) make sure to line up the seams. This photo is an example of what not to do.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MURZQ_YpdiQ/UD2YKhtJE8I/AAAAAAAACoY/hECN-R9b7Ps/s1600/IMG_2280.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MURZQ_YpdiQ/UD2YKhtJE8I/AAAAAAAACoY/hECN-R9b7Ps/s640/IMG_2280.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This photo is an example of what to do! :)</span></div>
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Svs8X8lP1aI/UD2Y00BCkmI/AAAAAAAACo4/pLKsdFVsskE/s1600/IMG_2295.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Svs8X8lP1aI/UD2Y00BCkmI/AAAAAAAACo4/pLKsdFVsskE/s640/IMG_2295.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">If the seams are not lined up, when you cut the pinwheels, you will end up with weird corner seams, as shown in the photo above.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l9Q8p7iUAK8/UD2Yna5lfXI/AAAAAAAACoo/hy-lomZke5o/s1600/IMG_2283.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l9Q8p7iUAK8/UD2Yna5lfXI/AAAAAAAACoo/hy-lomZke5o/s640/IMG_2283.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When cutting around the Twister tool, make sure to not cut too far beyond the tool, as there isn't much play room. If you do cut too far, your next block will have cut marks. You'll get the hang of how far is 'too far' very quickly! I also found that using the tool to cut along the fourth side (where the words are in this photo) was too difficult with the angle, etc. I found that placing my ruler against the tool, removing the tool, and using the ruler to cut along the fourth side was much more efficient.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CMsT1HU-0go/UD2YtWks--I/AAAAAAAACow/fgP2iCSnYXY/s1600/IMG_2291.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="562" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CMsT1HU-0go/UD2YtWks--I/AAAAAAAACow/fgP2iCSnYXY/s640/IMG_2291.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Once the blocks are cut, make sure you have a design wall, or somewhere to organize the blocks once they are twisted. I opted to add a small border, although the pattern didn't call for it. I hope that my tips help should you make your own Twister quilt!</span></div>

<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I originally blogged about the fabric and quilt pattern back in <a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2012/02/pick-bunch-quilt-top-finished.html">February</a>. Have I mentioned that I drag my feet when it comes to binding? :)</span> <span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Let's just say that this quilt sat for a couple of weeks (okay, months!) after I quilted it on the long arm.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oDIpXyeP1G8/UD2IrY1bsUI/AAAAAAAACm8/oKf9j4k5ncM/s1600/IMG_2780.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="492" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oDIpXyeP1G8/UD2IrY1bsUI/AAAAAAAACm8/oKf9j4k5ncM/s640/IMG_2780.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This is the first time I've incorporated solids into one of my quilts, and I love the splash of color! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vUR35YrvGKo/UD2I0yovYII/AAAAAAAACnE/peD0Yr_FFEM/s1600/IMG_2783.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="506" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vUR35YrvGKo/UD2I0yovYII/AAAAAAAACnE/peD0Yr_FFEM/s640/IMG_2783.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I normally like to add a little something special to the backing, but with such a busy front, I opted for uniform back. I also used green polka dot fabric for the binding, oh how I LOVE polka dots! :)</span></div>

<br />
Good morning, friends! I hope that everyone is having a fabulous 4th of July, and I am so thankful that you are here to join in on The Quilted Fish's Book Blog Tour! :)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5nD5lquYT5c/T_OuIO2wohI/AAAAAAAACls/mHxcvv1AjX0/s1600/AADBTheader.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5nD5lquYT5c/T_OuIO2wohI/AAAAAAAACls/mHxcvv1AjX0/s640/AADBTheader.gif" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The Creative Consultants Design Team teamed up with The Quilted Fish and
we debuted a book at Quilt Market in Kansas City- oh yeah!!! The book is titled </span><i style="color: red; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">An Apple a Day, 9 projects for the daily life of quilters, sewists, and crafters</i><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The book includes patterns for quilts, bags, home decor, and organization- something for everyone (which is what I love!). I detailed the contents after I got home from Quilt Market, so make sure to hop on over <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.madewithlove-candice.blogspot.com/2012/05/quilt-market-part-1-my-pattern-is-in.html">HERE</a></span> for beautiful photos and links to all of the contributor's blogs!</span><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">My contribution to the book are these darling herringbone placemats (I love that herringbone is all of the rage these days!). The placemats can be pieced and quilted in an afternoon's time which makes them that much more enticing, right!?! I have plans to whip some up for Christmas gifts, and hope that you join me! </span></div>
