Outfoxed + Be Merry

January 30, 2012

It's not quite the end of January and I have already finished two quilts!  (Its hard to believe as I'm usually such a procrastinator and its not abnormal for quilts to sit months/years before getting around to bind them.)

The first quilt is a fun baby quilt, made using Lizzy House's Outfoxed fabric collection, and my tutorial (although since the quilt was for a baby boy I simply omitted the circles and ric rac!).

I chose the main fox print for the back of the quilt, as this quilt was made for a very special little boy.  My friends just adopted a baby boy whose middle name is Fox, which is his mom's grandma's maiden name (following me?).  With that, I took one glimpse of the Outfoxed fabric and knew that I had to make him something special.  :)

Close up of the quilting, done by me!  :)

The second quilt is a fun lap quilt, made with Riley Blake's Be Merry Christmas fabric line (circa 2009), and The Quilted Fish's Sassy Squares No. 2 quilt pattern.

The backing is flannel, and the quilt was quilted with white snowflakes!

I have two more quilts in the works, and hope to be able to share completed versions with you in the near future!  I'm using this tutorial for one of the quilts, using Robert Kaufman's Pick a Bunch fabric collection, and this fun tool for the other quilt, using Riley Blake's So Sophie fabric collection.

Are you working on any quilts?  If so, I would love to hear about them!  :)

Delighted Fabric Launch Party!!!

January 23, 2012

I may {or may not be!} three months late with this post, but it is what it is!  Some of you may know that I was in Utah in October for The Quilted Fish's Delighted Fabric Launch Party, and let me tell you, it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  :)

Every table in the room was decorated with the utmost attention to detail!

Mr. Fish (Amanda's sweet husband) built this doll house for the party, and let me tell you it was a HIT!  The Delighted fabric was Mod Podged onto the wood, and then carefully assembled per the instructions.

Here is a look at the inside of the house.  All of the furnishings were made by Jana!  :)

Fun and fashionable Dress Form Mannequin Pin Cushions, made using DIY Dish's tutorial.

This was my 'home away from home' for the night!  The party featured two make-and-takes, one being a dog tag fabric necklace, and the other a bottle cap pincushion (which Jana manned).  Behind the table are also projects made by some of the The Quilted Fish's Design Team!

I LOVE this apron!  :)

This is Jana's station, where each party goer had the opportunity to make a bottle cap pincushion!

Sassy Jana!!!  :)

Each window displayed a sweet vignette of collections and handmade goodies featuring the Delighted fabric.

Above is the bunting I prepared for the party!  (Could you tell it was mine as each pendant is backed with burlap!?!)  ;)

Treats for all of the party goers!

The photo booth and fun props were a hit throughout the night!

This is Jana and I together (one of the only photos I have of us from our week together!).  I'm so thankful that I was able to be in Utah for the party, and that I had the opportunity to spend the time I did with both Amanda and Jana.  I am one lucky girl to be able to call them both friends, and better yet Besties!  ;)

PS- Interested in the kitchen themed projects made by the Design Team?  If so make sure to view the online magazine as well as the tutorials!

Squirmy Worm Studio is on Flickr!

January 14, 2012

Hi friends!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday.  I just wanted to let you know that Squirmy Worm Studio is now on Flickr (about time, right!?!).

Have you made something from a Squirmy Worm Studio pattern and/or Made With Love tutorial?  If so, I would LOVE for you to join Squirmy Worm Studio's Flickr group and post a photo of your completed project! :)

Handmade Christmas Gifts

January 7, 2012

I've always dreamed of a 100% handmade Christmas.  What about you?  Hopefully one of these days I'll get there, but until then I have two Christmas gifts to share with you!  First up is the fun doughnut quilt I made for my Grandma B.!  (It makes me hungry just looking at it!).  :)

I used Threaded Pear Studio's Modern Day Diamonds quilt pattern.  I absolutely love the simple design and size of the finished quilt.  I'll admit that matching the diamonds was a bit tedious, but towards the end I came up with a couple fail proof shortcuts, which eliminated a lot of seam ripping!

The back has a fun doughnut stripe along the bottom.

A close-up of the long-arm machine quilting, which I did myself- woo hoo!  :)

The next handmade gift I have to share is this quirky mustache pillow, which I made for my friend Thomas.  Mustache home decor is hot right now, so I figured who wouldn't want a pillow with an appliqued leather mustache on it?

I used Free Spirit's Designer Houndstooth fabric, in Hot House Blue, for the pillow.  The leather was a scrap I had laying around.

I also used a scrap piece of coordinating brown Moda fabric for the zipper cover!

This pillow marks the first time I ever worked with leather, with that being said I think the applique looks awesome!

Did you sew (or receive) any handmade Christmas gifts?

The "Up" House

January 6, 2012

Remember when I went to Utah in October to hang out with Amanda and Jana, as well as attend the Delighted fabric launch party (blog post to follow shortly!)?  Well, we also got to go to the "Up" house, as a local Utah construction company built a replica of house (from Disney's "Up" movie) in Herriman, Utah.

Here are a few photos from our tour of the house...

The attention to details is what makes this house so spectacular!

The house is sweet, right?
The house was for sale when we stopped in, and I just read that a couple from California bought the home.

Backyard and garage.

Living Room / Office.  I forget which room it was- ha!  :)

Gorgeous retro kitchen!

The kitchen is actually why we went to the "Up" house as we photographed all of the kitchen tutorials made by Sally, Brooke, and Jana of the Creative Consultant Design Team for The Quilted Fish's first Delighted Magazine.

Sweet vignettes from Carl and Ellie's master bedroom.

I'll be back soon with {long overdue photos} from the Delighted fabric launch party, which was such a hit!!!
