Yarn Wrapped Wreath Tutorial!
Last night I made a sweet yellow and gray yarn wrapped wreath for a birthday present. With Mother's Day just around the corner, I wanted to share this tutorial with you! Before we get started, please excuse the quality of the photos, as I was making the wreath LATE last night! :)
Materials:
- Skein of yarn (nothing fancy- I bought mine at WalMart)
- Foam wreath (I used a 12" form- purchased at JoAnn's with a coupon!)
- Felt for assorted flowers
- Ribbon for hanging (optional)
- Glue gun
- Scissors
1. Where the wreath connects, glue down a small portion of yarn with the glue gun.
2. Continue to wrap the yarn around the wreath.
3. Once you've wrapped the wreath 7-10 times, slide the yarn to the left, towards your starting point. Wrapping and sliding the yarn will give your wreath the messy look! :)
4. When the entire wreath is wrapped, trim the last piece of yarn, and glue onto the wreath. (Easy enough- right?)
5. I made two types of flowers for my wreath. I used Mrs. Priss' tutorial for the white pom pom flowers, and I'll show you how to make the yellow and light gray flowers. The photos below are for the 'big' yellow flower. First, cut 8-9 freehand circles (they don't have to be perfect). Just remember, the larger the circles, the larger the flower. Second, cut a circle for the base of the flower (1.5 - 2").
6. Fold the first circle in half, and then half again.
7. After the circle is folded, trim off a snippet from the base, so that the flower now has a flat bottom.
8. With the glue gun, adhere the bottom of the flower petal to the base of the flower. Start with placing petals around the outside of the base, and fill the center of the flower as needed. Note- you may need more than 8-9 circles to fill the entire flower, depending on the size of your circles and placement of petals.
9. With the glue gun, randomly place the flowers on the yarn wrapped wreath. If you're a planner like I am, you can tentatively place the flowers with a sewing pin in the middle of the flowers, until you're happy with the placement. When you're ready to commit, remove the sewing pin and glue the flowers to the wreath. Note- If for some reason you're not satisfied with the placement of the flowers after they're glued in place, gently rotate the yarn (under your flowers) to one side or the other, by doing so you'll be able to manipulate the placement of your flowers- woo hoo!
10. Step back and admire your work!!! :)

Sugar and Spice Flower Pillow!
I finally got some sewing in this weekend, which excites me beyond belief! Sweet Amanda of The Quilted Fish asked each of the Creative Consultants (me included!) to make something to be displayed in her booth at Quilt Market!!! I have to say that having something I made, displayed at Quilt Market, excites me like NO OTHER!!! :)
Remember the Sweet Divinity Flower Pillow tutorial? Well, I used the same tutorial and created the Sugar and Spice Flower Pillow...what do you think?

Easter Egg Hunt!
I have to say that when my sister mentioned that she was filling plastic eggs for her two dogs to find on Easter morning, I was a bit skeptical. I am totally guilty of treating Stuart like a human kid (at times!), but I had never thought of filling Easter eggs for him. I am stoked to report that my sister's Easter egg hunt for her pups was such a success, that she kindly filled eggs for Maggie (the lab) and Stuart! :)
A couple of photos from Easter Sunday...
There were two sizes of eggs, both of which were filled with an assortment of dog treats! The pups would find the eggs and either open them on their own, or bring them to one of the bystanders for assistance! :)
One happy camper!!!
My sister Megan, and brother-in-law Joe!
Bible Reading List- Week #3
Happy Easter, friends!
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15: 2-4
How did last week's reading assignment go? I'll be honest, as I'm a bit behind in reading, but hope to catch up this week!

Curls- 1980's Style!!!
Thank you for all of your sweet comments yesterday regarding my first vlog! I have to say that I was SO nervous! The clip I posted was probably the second or third take out of twelve- no kidding! :) Some of you mentioned my curls, which got me thinking...
So I raided my momma's scrapbooks and selected a photo (or two) from each year of my early childhood. I MAY regret this post later, but I hope you enjoy the snapshots of my curly hairstyles (hairstyle might be a stretch!) from 1982 to 1989! :)
A little background about my mop (aka curls!)...both of my parents have naturally curly hair + my Grandma M. hoped and prayed that I would have curls, so quite frankly I didn't have much of a chance for straight hair! :)
First Christmas- December 1982 with Grandma B.
First Birthday- August 1983
Laundry with my Dad (1983)
Halloween- October 1984
Happy big sister- February 1985
Dress up time with Grandma B.- 1985
Preschool- 1986
Beach day with Megan and my Dad- 1987
Easter with Megan- 1988
Matching dresses (made by my Momma)- 1989
So, what do you guys think??? {Please be nice!!} Do you want to see more? The next decade (1990-2000) will take us through elementary school, to my high school graduation. I have to say it was a bit hard to find 'hairstyle photos', but if the want is there, I'm sure I can come up with something. Have a great Tuesday!!!

Best Friends Forever
If you're looking for the Market Tote Bag and Advertising Space giveaway...click here (winner will be chosen TONIGHT, and announced Tuesday AM)!
So, Maggie (my momma's yellow lab) was gifted a handmade dog bed from my grandma over the weekend. Let me just say, she has been GLUED to this bed since Saturday night! :) I snapped this photo with my camera phone last night (sorry the quality isn't great, but I thought it was too cute not to share!).
Maggie was minding her own business on her bed, when Stuart quietly and oh so gingerly climbed up next to her (which has never happened!). For the most part they 'get along', however Stuart has been known to be extra feisty, and Maggie is always so patient with him. Perhaps the new bed will help transform Stuart's social skills and make them BFFs- a girl can hope, right??? :) Happy Monday, all!

Will YOU Join Me???
If you're looking for the Market Tote Bag and Advertising Space giveaway...click here!
Hi friends!!! First things first, I attempted to record a vlog (video blog) on Wednesday, because I'm just THAT excited about this post. I started the camera, and about one minute into my spiel I realized that I wasn't wearing makeup, my hair wasn't cooperating, and I was in my jammies- oy! :)
Anyways, I've had a lot of extra time on my hands lately and have really felt God stretching me (which I love!). I've had the desire to read the entire bible for some time now. I started out strong in the book of Psalms in January, and unfortunately fell off the wagon by February. I then got back on the horse in February and started reading from the book of John, and again failed- ugh!
As of this Sunday, I WILL read the bible in 52 weeks, and I sincerely hope that you join me. I've found that I'm always so much more motivated to go to the gym when I have a gym buddy that is counting on me, and I'm hoping to implement the same concept when it comes to reading the bible. I'll more than gladly be your source of motivation, if you'll be mine! :)
Now for the details... Every Sunday I'll post the week's reading list. Here's a super handy one-page reading list, which I'd recommend you print out and store in your binder, so that you can check-off the reading assignment upon completion! It's not required, but I ask that if you come across a verse that really touched home, or anything that you want to share, please feel free to leave a comment on the weekly Sunday reading list post! I read ALL comments, and will try to respond in a timely manner! :)
Are you in??? If so, I'd love for you to grab the button below (that my sweet friend Christa designed for me!) and put it on your blog. Please feel free to spread the news, as the more, the merrier! :)
If you have any questions that I haven't yet answered, please feel free to email me at squirmywormstudio@gmail.com. I hope you'll be back here on Sunday for the start of week #1!!!

Blogging Barefoot!
If you're looking for the Market Tote Bag and Advertising Space giveaway...click here!
Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is the day, TOMS One Day Without Shoes! Have you been able to experience any of the day without shoes? I woke up this morning and put on a comfy and warm pair of socks to run around the house in, and while on the phone with my momma I realized that technically I wasn't barefoot, so off the socks came!
I'm working from home today (for the most part), so I'm blogging without shoes, will be sewing without shoes, and went to get the mail without shoes (but the mailman failed me, so I'll have to take another trip out to the mailbox later in the day!). I know that for some going to the mailbox without shoes is not such a big deal, but for me it is! I have issues going in the backyard without shoes to feed the dog- get where I'm coming from? Today has definitely brought a new level of awareness, and I'm so thankful for that...and I think that I just might have to buy another pair of TOMS this weekend or so! :)

Handmade with Purpose- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
I just realized that when I announced that I was participating with Handmade with Purpose, that I didn't share the cause that I'll be donating to- oy! :)
Squirmy Worm Studio will be donating 20% of April's profits to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)!
Not sure what JDRF is, or who they support? Well, directly from their website, Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump - each day, every day of their lives. And even with that intensive care, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its potential complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. To help improve the lives of people with type 1 diabetes while working toward a cure, one of JDRF's research goals is to support research to develop products that can dramatically improve blood glucose control in people with type 1 diabetes so they can live healthier lives with less risk of developing disease-related complications.
JDRF is near and dear to my heart, as I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (also known as juvenile diabetes) at the age of 5. I was a normal kid that enjoyed to play, swim, but didn't eat sugar! Side note- every year when Halloween rolled around, my sweet momma would trade my bag full of sugary goodness for something that was diabetic friendly (six-pack of diet coke, board game, etc.). :) Behind the scenes, I had to partake in more maintenance work (aka blood sugar tests, and insulin shots 3 times a day) than my other friends at school, but that was the norm for me. Towards the end of college I switched from insulin shots to an insulin pump, which releases small amounts of rapid-acting insulin to keep blood glucose levels steady between meals and during sleep. With that, my story is still being written. Have you been affected by type 1 diabetes, or know of someone that has?

Maiden Voyage...
A maiden voyage is usually referred to as the first journey of a ship or aircraft, but I also think the concept fits my first experience with my pair of TOMS! I've known of TOMS for sometime, but never thought they looked like 'me', that is until I tried on a pair and fell in LOVE with them. The shoes are awesome, and so is the company, its a win-win!
In addition, on Tuesday, April 5th, TOMS is hosting One Day Without Shoes, by chance are you participating? Check out the website and the video below for more information/details!
