This Outfit Fits Much Better!

July 30, 2009

Notice any changes??? Just a quick hello to ask for patience from my faithful readers, as I've decided to take on the task of updating my blog's outfit (you may recall that I'm in the architecture industry and not web design...hold on as this should be a fun ride)! :o)

Hopefully the new banner is a tempting sneak peek of things to come...

Notion Spotlight!

July 28, 2009

When I first started to get into sewing (this past January!) I went to my Grandma B. with frustrations regarding my sewing machine, as the presser foot wouldn't make it over thick seams. A couple days later I received a Jean-a-ma-jig in the mail, with a sweet note of encouragement from my Grandma B.

I'm writing this post to share with all the novice sewers (like myself) or even the more advanced that the Jean-a-ma-jig does wonders, as it raises your presser foot enabling ease over thick/bulky seams! I'll be the first to admit that I've used it on ALL of my projects this year (quilts, aprons, fabric basket, craft swap project, etc.).

If you have any tips to share, I'm all ears! :o)

Baby Quilt #4...the last of its kind!

July 25, 2009

Did someone say a special little boy was having a 1st birthday? :) The last couple of weeks I've been diligently working on birthday presents for a dear friend's son, as he is one today!

I adapted
Jennifer Arey's, of Baby's Breath Quilts, Tumbling Squares Baby Quilt by adding an additional row, making the quilt +/- 36" x 40". I opted to have this project professionally quilted (got to love the loop-de-loop pattern!).

With my mom's help (she has the patience of a Saint!) I also made a special bib for the birthday boy, using Chickpea Sewing Studio's bib pattern! My applique needs a great deal of improvement, but then again I was satisfied with the outcome of my first attempt!

PS- With this post I also must announce that I'm retiring the above quilt pattern from my tutorial stash, and thus am in the market for a new pattern, so please pass any you may think might interest me my way!

Fabric Basket

July 24, 2009

This week I completed a Fabric Basket via the direction of Pink Penguin's tutorial. I found the tutorial to be decent, although I improvised where needed. I think the basket is darling, and a great addition to any gift. I think making a set of nesting baskets would be fun and quite rewarding. So many ideas and so little time...

PS- Unfortunately the handles appear to be wonky in the picture, but in true life they are proportionate!

No Reason To Worry...

July 21, 2009

To all of my faithful readers...I'm still alive and kicking! :o)

I've been busy working on the items in the pipeline, as well as a couple extra unforeseen projects!

Mr. D's football quilt is a work in progress. To date, I have two of the five fabrics cut (am I the only one that HATES cutting fabric?), and am excited to get to the point where 'cutting' will be past tense, as it is all down hill from there! :)

I've also been working on my Craft Swap project, as August 8th is our first meeting! I'm so excited to be able to share with all what I've been up to, as keeping my craft a secret has proven to be quite tricky! It looks like I'll have an extra one of my craft project, so stay tuned for my first giveaway!

I have a couple of finished projects that I am excited to share with all, but you'll have to hang on until the weekend as the lighting in the house after work is not working for me!

PS:
I'm happy to report that the diaper/wipes case was gifted last week by D, and from what I heard the momma-to-be was very excited and appreciative, which is exactly why I do what I do!

I LOVE a Good Deal- Part 2!!!

July 9, 2009

Just a quick continuation of a previous post, as I have six additional yards in my ever growing stash! The $4 a yard sale has since ended, however I received an insider tip (by the way thank you Suzanne!) that Sandi Henderson Farmer's Market prints will soon be on sale.

On a similar note, Monday I came home to a very special package in the mail (from Australia!), a pack of 32 Shadow Play fat quarters from Maywood Studio. With that said, I would like to thank Di Mill so very much!!!
